This rare early 1950s compendium was designed by Paul Dupre Lafon as part of his partnership with Hermes Paris. Dupre Lafon was a visionary. His background as an architect and a decorator can be clearly seen in the combination of Cubist and Art Deco in the geometric lines of this piece. This brass compendium has a compass on top, the sides with dials for barometer and thermometer, manual calendar with engraved days of the month. The whole assembly revolves on a stepped compressed leather square base. The compendium is in good working condition. There is patina on the case, consistent with age and light wear on the leather base. There is also a chip on the glass of the compass and a crack in the glass of the clock. Pricing has factored this in.
