  • The 18th volume in this excellent Django Reinhardt review series collects many of his late sides with not only his final editions of the Hot Club of France, but also some radio show takes -- the solo medley of "Dissonance" and "Night and Day" from Maurice Chevalier's radio program on Radio France from 1949, and another radio session, a full program, with the Son Quintette from the same year. The rest of the disc is divided up between two different Rome sessions in 1949 and 1950. The material sounds as good as it can given the circumstances, and the performances are fiery; Reinhardt was using an electric guitar by then and was quite inspired. ~ Thom Jurek
